A New Jersey Horse Race & the Fog

I have never seen it happen at Saratoga, but it did in New Jersey and Buffalo.  A 1989 New Jersey horse race left a great deal to the imagination.  There was a heavy fog over the track, and the announcer had trouble calling the race for the spectators.  “They race past the stands into the first turn with Hot Lights Excellence in front.  On the outside Equal to None is second as they disappear into the fog…From now on…you’re on your own!”  Many years later, a snowstorm in Buffalo brought about a similar call by the track announcer:  “Into the far turn…come out…hello…horsies, where are you?’
