February 8, 1963 – Gary Blongiewicz paced Amsterdam High School to a 75-64 win over Class A rival Linton to clinch the league championship for the Ruggies. The “Game of the Year” was played before a standing room only crowd in the Blue Devil gymnasium. The win boosted Amsterdam’s two-season win streak to 23 games. Blongiewicz scored 28 points, and he pulled down 7 rebounds. 10 of his points coming from the foul line. Junior center Tim Kolodziej scored 16 points and grabbed 10 caroms. Other double-figure scorers were Phil Schuyler 15, and Tom Urbelis 12. Linton was led by All-American Pat Riley, who bucketed 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
