March 16, 2013 – The north country has another superb basketball player. He is Joel Wincowski of Lake George, who just might be the next Jimmer Fredette. Fredette played for Glens Falls, Bringham Young University, where he was College Basketball Player of the Year, and now with the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. Wincowski averaged 15.6 points as a freshman, and this season, the 6’2″ sophomore sensation is averaging 27 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals per game. In his most recent outing, Wincowski lit it up for 33 points (seven 3-pointers), 6 steals , and 4 assists in a Class C tournament game. His 62 points is a on record as the second highest two-game Class C total, and his 7 one-game and 11 two-game total for three-pointers are also Class C records. Wincowski consistently nails the three–pointer, and he also takes the ball to the hoop and draws fouls. He has been “Mr. Clutch” for Lake George all season long. With two years of high school basketball left, who knows just how good he will be.
