Caryn Schoff who played for the St. Johnsville girls’ basketball team is the all-time New York state career scorer with over 3,500 points. Schoff is either the daughter or niece of area basketball great Phil Schoff. Phil Schoff also played his high school hoop for st. Johnsville. He then played alongside Jim Boeheim and Dave Bing at Syracuse in the 1960s. Schoff was a very rugged inside man who followed up his college career with a stint in the Eastern Basketball League. It ultimately led to a tryout with the Atlanta Hawks. The strong swingman was the last player cut by the Hawks that year.

Former Linton High two-sport star (1964) Rusty Vitallo pitched for the Jaycee Little League in 1958 and the people in Williamsport, PA, home of the LL World Series, said he was the fastest little league pitcher they had ever seen. Vitallo was a good 6′ tall and he overwelmed batters. His catcher was a kid named Rosetti, and I think he went home with a black and blue mitt hand after games. Vitallo played in the Oakland A’s organization, and at one point he roomed with Vida Blue in the minors.
