Blistering the Nets

There have been some very big point productions on the Capital Region basketball courts over the years.  Some of them were:  The diminutive Calvin Murphy, a jumping jack who played for Frank Layden at Niagara, poured in 73 points against the Schenectady Schaefer Brewers;  Rich Campoli of St. Joseph’s of Albany scored 67 points in 1964;  Babe Baldwin of Mayfield scored 62 points in 1957, and Gerry Thomsen of Hoosic Valley and Mal McGuire of St Mary’s of Glens Falls each racked up 60 points in 1960.  Just think, there was no three-point shot at that time.
