Bowling is Big in Schenectady

Bowling has always been very popular throughout Schenectady County.  There are leagues galore and open bowling, and a great number of men and women keglers of all ages.  Many of them with big averages and 300 games.  A lot of you must remember some of the big-name national champions of yesteryear.  Some of the leading PBA averages by year were:

1962 – Don Carter, 212.84

1965 – Dick Weber, 211.89

1967 – Wayn Zayn – 212.34

1973 – Earl Anthony, 215.79

1975 – Earl Anthony, 219.06

1976 – Mark Roth, 215.97

1996 – Walter Ray Williams Jr., 225.37

2005 – Walter Ray Williams Jr., 227.07

From 1962-1980, the PBA leading money winners earned anywhere from $33,592 (1964) to $134,500 (1978).
