Charlie Leigh was arguably the greatest high school running back in Capital Region history. He was a threat to go all the way every time he touched the football. Leigh played for Albany High School, and He was the Jimmy Brown of area high school football. Charlie played professional football from 1968 to 1974 for the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, and Green Bay Packers. His best season was 1968 when he was playing for the Browns. That year, he rushed for 144 yards on 23 carries for an average of 6.3 yards. His second best season was 1973 when he played for the Dolphins. He rushed for 134 yards on 22 carries for an average of 6.1 yards. Leigh also was a punt and kick-off return man. His career total for kick-off returns was 1,082 yards for an average of 23.5 yards per return. He returned punts for a total of 368 yards for an average of 7.4 yards per return.
