Curling Along the Mohawk was the theme of the 42nd U.S. Women’s Curling Association National Bonspiel held at the Schenectady Curling Club in 1989, and there certainly was plenty of excellent curling to be seen during the event. Thirty-two teams from ten states participated in the competition wih a total of 128 women vying for trophies in four events. Three of the four teams in the finals came fro the Chicago area, including the two rinks in the first event. North Shore, Glenview, Illinois edged out the Exmoor Country Club, Hyland Park, Illinois to capture the Wauwatosa Trophy. An Ardwick team from Ardsley, New York won the second event with a win over St. Paul, Minnesota. The third event Exmoor Trophy went to the Oakpark, Illinois foursome with a Norfolk, Connecticut team the runner-up. Millie Stopera’s Schenectady team, which included Caryll DeCrosta, Ann Chick, and Caryn DeCrosta, gained a win over the Ak-Sar-Ben team from Omaha, Nebraska to capture the Skokie Trophy for the host club.
