August 8, 2013 – Pound for pound and inch for inch, David Modest, who played basketball for Linton in the early 1970’s, just might rate as the best Linton/Nott Terrace player in history. 5’9″ or 5’10” at the most, Modest had lightning quickness, a nice touch and good range on his shot, and he could elevate. Modest, an All-American, had the acrobatic moves, and he was among the top career point producers in Linton/Nott Terrace history. He was the Calvin Murphy of Capital Region high school basketball. The little dynamo was scholarshipped by Providence College. Remember, it was at a time when the Friars were rated among the elite college teams in the country, and Providence coaches Joe Mullaney and Dave Gavitt were two of the best mentors in the land. Therefore, Modest must have ranked among the elite high school players in the entire nation.
