Ralph Sausville was the head basketball coach of Albany High School in the early 1960s, and his son Mark was the Schenectady High coach in later years. Capital Region high schools always played the Falcons in their little bandbox gymnasium. Guys like super-quick Chet “the jet” Morbidelli and smooth-shooting Charlie Francis were always very effective on their home floor in the 1950s. When Sausville was coaching in 1962, his star players were two big, powerful ,and very talented older-looking guys named Davis Willingham and Freddie Leigh. I swear both “kids” looked like they were going on 25.
