Dick Ellis of Draper High , a class B school, was Pat Riley’s chief competitor for the highest high school scoring average in Schenectady County in 1963. Ellis was a machine gun on offense. He was quick to take a shot, he had a soft touch, and he put up big numbers in every game. Though Ellis was scoring 25 or more points in nearly every game, Riley of Linton High, the Schenectady County Player of the Year, won the scoring title witha 28-plus average. Ellis’s style of play was comparable to another former Draper star by the name of Rit Keith. Keith lit-it-up for 64 points one night.
