The very first nationally televised college basketball game took place on January 20, 1968 between UCLA and Houston. The Cougars, led by Elvin Hayes, beat the Bruins 71-69 at the Houston Astrodome to break their 47-game winning streak. Hayes put on a brilliant performance, scoring 39-points and pulling down 15 rebounds. Lew Alcindor, the Bruins’ magnificent center, was held to 15 points. In February of that same year, Hayes had 37 rebounds in a game against Centenary. Centenary is not a bad basketball school. Remember the Chief?
