Gary Geiger, a Schenectay track star of the 1960s, was shot and robbed while working at an Albany motel in 1981. This put his training for master sprinting competition on hold for three years. He did return to competition and eventually ranked high up as a masters sprinter. Geiger’s horrendous experience at that Albany motel led to an award-winning HBO special featuring him. In the special, Geiger came face-to-face with one of his assailants and forgave him.
