Gary Walters was a Star at Princeton

Former Union College basketball coach, Gary Walters,was a point guard for Princeton in 1965 when they were led by Bill Bradley and went to the NCAA Final Four.  He also was pictured on the front cover of Sports Illustrated in 1967, the year he led the tigers to a 25-3 record and a number five ranking in the final polls.  Walters was a 3-time All-Ivy League selection.  In 1970, he became the head coach of Middlebury College, then spent three years with Union , where he coached Jim Tedisco.  While at Union, he was named Division III Coach of the Year.  He returned to Princeton to become Pete Carril’s assistant in 1973.  He was named the head coach of Dartmouth in 1976 and then moved on to Providence College.  Walters left coaching for a period of time, then became the Athletic Director at Princeton in 1994.
