Glens Falls has bred major league pitchers Johnny Podres, Dave Palmer, and Dave LaPoint. Then there was Pete Brown who pitched for St. Mary’s Academy. LaPoint and Palmer overwelmed their high school opponents, and Brown rated right there with them. Brown threw several no-hitters in high school. One of them was against Glens Falls, when he beat LaPoint and Palmer in the same game. Brown threw bullets, and his curveball was practically unhittable. Drafted by the Chicago Cubs, Brown was mowing batters down his rookie season, when he damaged his elbow. He had surgery on that elbow three different times, but made a remarkable comeback and was drafted a second time. His Elbow, however, could not take the constant pounding, and his short major league career was over. Palmer said that Brown was one of the best pitchers he had ever seen.
