Glens Falls has had a very rich basketball tradition since 1920. At that time, the city hosted the Eastern States Tournament. It has been very involved with high school basketball for many years, and needless to say, Brigham Young star and present Sacramento Suns player Jimmer Fredette played his high school ball there. A local group of men and women , along with the Basketball Coaches Association of New York formed the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame in the city. The building is downtown, and it houses a permanent museum to honor those who are inducted into the Hall of Fame. Among the Hall of Fame members from the Capital Region are George Khoury, of Warrensburg High School; Sig Makofski of Schenectady, who coached the Mont Pleasant High “Wonder teams”; Walt Przybylo, the Nott Terrace/Linton coach; Joey Loudis, who coached at Mechanicville and Cohoes, and Richard “Doc” Sauers, the former Albany State coach. Among the other inductees are Connie Hawkins, Bedford Stuyvesant HS, ABA, NBA; Dolph Schayes, DeWitt HS, NYU, Knicks, and Nat Holman, coach of CCNY.
