Jim Coyne had the vision and took the initiative to have the Knickerbocker Arena come to fruition. On January 30, 1990, the $66 milion dollar facility opened. The arena matched many of the large arenas around the country. “I can’t believe this is Albany,” was the reaction by one visitor. The arena, now known as the Pepsi Arena, holds about 15,000 for basketball and hockey. Hats off to Jim Coyne and the Albany County Council for making it happen.
