Jack Dempsey over Joe Louis

In 1950, boxing great Jack Dempsey, who once visited Schenectady, was voted the greatest fighter of  the past fifty years by the Associated Press poll of sportswriters and broadcasters.  Dempsey received 251 votes, and the “Brown Bomber”, Joe Louis, who was the World Heavyweight  Champion from 1937 to 1949, was named on 104 ballots.
