Jake LaMotta & Some Scandalous Scandals

July 14, 1960 – Former middleweight boxing champion Jake LaMotta told a senate committee that he had thrown a fight in 1947.  LaMotta said he was pressured to take a dive if he wanted a crack at the title.

December 21, 1976 – Boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter was convicted for the murders of three people in a Patterson, New Jersey bar.

1920 – Eight Chicago White Sox players were indicted on charges of fixing the 1919 World Series.  It was called the Black Sox scandal.

1951 – A Manhattan district attorney had three CCNY basketball players and two professional gamblers arrested on bribery charges.

Mercury Morris – The former fleet-footed running back of the Miami Dolphins was sent to prison for dealing drugs at the big-time level.
