At the 2012 Capital Region Baseball Hall of Fame dinner, the John Cerutti Sportsmanship Award named after Albany native John Ceutti, was presented. The winner was Schenectady’s Don Blaha, a class act all the way. Blaha was a great star in college at NYU. Cerutti had a productive pitching career with the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers. When he completed his playing career, Cerutti became the voice of the Blue Jays, and he was very successful with that career. He passed away very unexpectedly with a heart attack in his hotel room before a game. He, like Blaha, was nothing but a class act as well. Cerutti was greatly admired by fans or anyone else who knew him. He never forgot his roots.
