John Stewart hails from Granville, New York, where he was a star catcher and pitcher in high school. He went on to Georgia Tech on a baseball scholarship, and then was drafted by the Atlanta Braves. A minor league pitcher until 1991, Stewart was then offered a job as a coach with the Braves, but he decided to become a scout. Stewart is responsible for discovering Andruw Jones. In 2006, He was promoted to the position of Regional Scouting Director of the Braves.
