Paul Vellano, a lineman at Bishop Gibbons back in the late 1960s, later became an All-League pick, and an All-American at the University of Maryland. His son Joe, a CBA grad, has followed in his dad’s footsteps, and he too has had a standout career as a lineman for the Terrapins. Joe Vellano, a defensive stalwart, recently earned Atlantic Coast Conference All-League honors for the second year in a row. The 285- pounder had 61 tackles and 6 sacks for the Terrapins this season. Maryland lost their last six games to finish 4-8.
