Mont Pleasant Coach Sig Makofski Turns Down Syracuse Job

Mont Pleasant basketballcoach, Sig Makofski, who put together the great  Red Raider “Wonder Teams” from 1931 to 1952, turned down the head basketball job at Syracuse in 1950. The Orangemen would not meet Makofski’s demand of $10,000 a year for five years, so he decided to resume his duties as head coach of the Red Raiders for the 1950-1951 season.  During Makofski’s illustrious career, he won 354 games and lost just 24.  Six of his teams were undefeated.  He also had winning streaks of 46, 42, 39, and 36 games.
