Mont Pleasant’s Dick Bennett was Among the Best

Mont Pleasant basketball player Dick Bennett (Bednarkiewicz) was among the many outstanding players developed by Red Raider coaching great Sig Makofski.  Bennett played from 1937-1940, and   the Red Raiders finished 56-4 during his three-year varsity career, and they won league titles his junior and senior years.  His team was undefeated the 1938-39 season, and his Mont Pleasant teams won 37 consecutive games.  He played on Dan Cunha’s first team at Siena College and averaged 15 points per game the 1941-1942 season.  Bennett played professionally for the Schenectady Comets (New York State League) in 1946, and in exhibition games against the Harlem Globetrotters
