Nolan Ryan, Bob Feller, and Justin Verlander all had heir 100 mph fastballs, but there was another flame thrower who out did them all according to a Sports Illustrated cover story in 1985. His name was Hayden Siddhartha “Sid” Finch. In the mid-1980s, The 28 year-old rookie from Tibet amazed the New York Met staff during spring training, by throwing a fastball that was clocked at an incredible 168 miles per hour. Why then, did his name disappear from the sports pages so quickly? Because that April 1, 1985 Sports Illustrated issue was an April Fool’s joke by the publication.
