New York Giants Star Monte Irvin Comes to Schenectady

In 1977, a special night was held at the Ramada Inn in Schenectady for Buck Ewing, who played for the Mohawk Colored Giants and was arguably the greatest catcher in Schenectady County history.  Monte Irvin, a Hall of Fame member and one of the batting stars for the New York Giants in the 1954 World Series against the Cleveland Indians, was the guest speaker at the event.  Ewing passed away in 1979.
