NFL & College Debuts

1951 – The ineligible receiver rule in the NFL (Tackles, centers, and guards cannot receive a forward pass), and the first coast-to-coast telecast of a championship game.  The Rams beat the Browns 24-17.

1952 – The Pittsburgh Steelers became the last team to switch from the single-wing to the T formation.

1958 – Two points could be scored on points after touchdown in college football.

1959 – Formation of the American Football League by Lamar Hunt.
