Nick Constantino Named Top Rotterdam Cager

The Rotterdam Elks Club named Mohonasen’s Nick Constantino its first Rotterdam Scholastic Basketball Player of the Year in the mid-1960s.  The three coaches from the Rotterdam high schools made the choice.  They were Nels LaRoe of Draper, Bill Baker of Mohonasen, and Paul Volk of Schalmont.  Constantino was the leading scorer in the Suburban Council with 285 points.  He also was runner-up to Dick Grubar of Bishop Gibbons for the Schenectady County scoring honors.  Constantino was a third-team Union Star All-County pick.  Grubar, by the way, lived in Rotterdam, and had he not attended Bishop Gibbons, probably would have gone to Draper.  He was a two-time Schenectady County Player of the Year.
