Plainsmen Star Greg Koubek

Greg Koubek was a Shenendehowa basketball star in the mid-1980s.  He led the Plainsmen to the New York State Championship in 1987 and was named to the McDonald’s All-American team.  He went on to play for Duke University.  During his four years at Duke, The Blue Devils won 117 games and lost 31.  Koubek became the first player to play in four NCAA final fours.  The 6’6″, 205-pound sociology major had 364 career rebounds and was the Duke team captain in 1991.  He played alongside Danny Ferry in 1988 and 1989.  In 1991, teammate Christian Laettner hit a shot at the buzzer to win the NCAA Championship game.  Later, Koubek became the Executive Director of the YMCA in Albany.
