Former Mohonasen School District Principal and Superintendent Billy Manikas was a basketball standout at Mont Pleasant and Syracuse. Manikas led the Red Raiders to the Section II Championship the 1947-1948 season, and the following year they won the Class A League title and Intersectional championship. That Red Raider team finished the season undefeated. Manikas was a unanimous first team All-County selection. He went on and played three varsity seasons for Syracuse University , and the Orangemen were National Campus Basketball Tournament Champions in 1951. Manikas was named Syacuse Athlete of the Week one week, and he was the team captain the 1952-1953 season. At the conclusion of his Syracuse career, Manikas was invited to tryout for the Syracuse Nationals (NBA). He is a mamber of both the Mont Pleasant High School and Schenecady City School District Athletic Halls of fame.
