How many of you remember the great race at Saratoga Race Course in 1962, when west coast invader Ridan made the trip east to battle Jaipur. I was fortunate enough to be there that day, and some how friends Pat Riley, Warren DeSantis and I were able to wiggle our way close to the rail near the finish line to see the race. The two highly regarded thoroughbreds raced neck ‘n’ neck down the stretch, and Jaipur, with Eddie Arcaro in the irons, managed to get a nose in front at the wire to win the race. “Banana Nose” always seemed to have a flair for the dramatic. It was the greatest race that I have ever seen.
