Karl Bankowski, one of the finest basketball talents Rotterdam has ever produced, played his college ball at the University of Utah where his teammates were future NBA stars Danny Vranes and Tom Chambers. While playing alongside Vranes and Chambers, Bankowski averaged 10 points per game. He split his high school career between Draper and Bishop Gibbons in the 1970s. Bankowski’s best high school years were with BG, where he averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds, and he was an All-Metroland selection two years. Assembyman James Tedisco was his coach at Gibbons. After his college-playing days, Bankowski stayed in Utah, and he became the president of a construction trucking company.
