Mark Scirocco of Saratoga High School was one of the most talented running backs in the Capital Region in the late 1980s. The 5’6″, 160-pound dynamo accelerated quickly, and he had great field instincts on the gridiron. Scirocco set a school record, amassing 1,428 yards rushing his junior year. He also scored 13 touchdowns. His most impressive efforts were the four games in which he rushed for over 200 yards. Scirocco achieved this feat playing alongside another superb running back, Sean Briscoe. Scirocco’s top rushing effort came against Colonie, when the speedy back racked up 276 yards on some nifty inside and outside running. Scirocco was not only quick, but he also was very strong for a player his size, and he had the ability to break tackles.
