You can build a case for Schalmont’s Nick Gallo to be Metroland’s high school football Player of the Year. Consistently performing at a high level game in game out the 2013 football season, Gallo did it once again in the Sabres’ most recent game, a 35-8 win over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, completing 11 of 14 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. He also picked up 118 yards rushing. Gallo, along with Devon Willis who now has amassed over 5,000 yards rushing for his career, have led Schalmont to magnificent seasons the last two years. Gallo’s offensive productions on the ground and through the airways, as well as his defensive prowess, which makes him one of the best defenders in the Capital Region, qualify him to be highly considered by area scribes for Metroland Player of the Year honors.
