I don’t know about you, but I haven’t heard of any Schenectady County or Capital Region girls kicking extra points for their respective high school football teams. In the mid- 1980s, there were two girls from around the country who were knockin’ ’em through the goal posts. One was Bridgette Farris of Hoover High in Fresno, California. Another was Beth Bates of Williamsburg High in Kentucky who kicked five extra points and a field goal. The first girl to split the uprights, however, goes was back to 1939, when Luverne Wise kicked six extra points for Escambia County High in Atmore, Alabama and completed a pass for another conversion.
