Avid Schenectady County and other Capital Region fishermen do plenty of smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye pike fishing at Saratoga Lake, hoping to catch their trophy. Many nice-size fish of these varieties have been caught by local fishermen. But how about these record-setting lunkers. The largest northern pike ever caught weighed 55 pounds, 1 ounce, and it was caught from Lake Grefeem, West Germany. The record smallmouth retrieved weighed in at 11 pounds, 15 ounces, and it was caught at Dale Hollow Lake, Kentucky. The largest walleye pike weighed 25 pounds and was caught at Old Hickory Lake, Tennessee. And oh, by the way, the largest Chinook, salmon weighed in at 97 pounds, 4 ounces, and that lunker was muscled from the Kenai River in Alaska. I cross my heart, these are not fish tales.
