Schenectady’s Mark Lyons began his college basketball career at Xavier, and this year played for Arizona, a top-20 team. He has been “Mr. Clutch” for the Wildcats, delivering in crunch time all season long. A fierce competitor, Lyons is the kid you would want on your side when the going is the toughest. Here’s what he did:
# On December 15 he scored on a layup at the buzzer to beat Florida, who was ranked among the top-ten teams in the nation.
# In late December, Lyons connected on two free throws with 12 seconds left, to give the Wildcats a 68-67 win over San Diego State in the final game of the Diamondhead Classic.
# He began the New Year with more clutch play. On January 3, he hit two free throws with a little less than ten seconds left in the game to force overtime in a 92-83 win over Colorado.
# Two days later, the high-energy point guard hit two free throws with 7 seconds left for the go-ahead points in a 60-57 win over Utah.
