Slugger Rocky Colavito to Knuckleballer Hoyt Wilhelm

Rocky Colavito – Slugger Rocky Colavito, an outfielder for the Cleveland Indians, had 374 career homeruns, but he also pitced two games against the Detroit Tigers.  In 1958, he hurled three innings and did not give up a single hit.

Joe Gordon – He played in 1,000 games for the New York Yankees and had exactly 1,000 hits.

Billy Martin – The only player to play in Rocky Colavito’s 4-homer game in 1959, Willie Mays’ 4-homer game in 1961, and Don Larsen’s perfect World Series game in 1956.

Jimmy Piersall – He hit a homerun for the New York Mets in 1963 and ran around the bases backwards, touching all bases in sequence.

Hoyt Wilhelm – The knuckleball throwing pitcher cracked a homerun in his first major league at bat, but never hit another in 21 seasons of play.
