I have already mentioned some Schenectady County female basketball stars of yesteryear like Charlene Fields (Bishop Gibbons), Amanda Blackstone (Mohonasen), Val Higgins (Schalmont) and Kathy Kaczkowski (Draper). Here are some others who have made their mark.
Kelly Paolino, Schalmont – A scrappy player and an excellent ballhandler who could score. One of the top players the Rotterdam schools have ever produced.
Becky Bazyk, Bishop Gibbons – Consistent at both ends of the floor, and a very unselfish player who did a lot of the little things well. She moved well without the ball and was a very valuable team player.
Cathy Bintz., Bishop Gibbons – She picked many an opponent’s pockets with her quick hands on defense. Bintz was a feisty backcourter who consistently scored in double figures and rebounded well.
Michelle Dragon, Mont Pleasant – A good scorer in clutch situations for the Red Raiders, and a great team leader. Dragon played the game very aggressively.
Jennifer Nowak, Schenectagy High – Jennifer was as tough as nails and a very fierce competitor. She played the game witha great deal of intensity. Novak scored over 1,000 career points in high school and in college. She attended Keene State College.
Karly Heiner, Schenectady High – A teammate of Jennifer Nowak, Heiner was an excellent all-around player with a nice touch from the outside. Heiner ran the floor well. She is the daughter of former Linton player, Karl Heiner. Karl played in 1961.
