The Albany River Rats (1993-2001)

The Albany River Rats defeated the Rochester Americans in their inaugural regular season game in 1993.  They also crushed the Americans 9-3 in their first home game at the Knickerbocker Arena that same year.  Other River Rat highlights from 1993 to 2001 were:  The Rats won their first playoff contest 3-1, and Corey Schwab shutout the Springfield Falcons 2-0 for their first shutout in team history in 1994;  The River Rats broke their attendance record in 1995, when 13,941 fans attended a Rats home game against the Adirondack Red Wings;  In 1995, the Rats blanked the Fredricton Canadiens 3-0 to win the Calder Cup;  Steve Sullivan registered his third hat trick of the season in 1996 to set a team record;  The River Rats ran up a 9-game win streak in 1997.  It was the longest streak in team history;  On February 4, 1998, they honored their 1,000,000th fan;  That same year, Brendan Morrison scored all five goals in a 5-2 win over Hartford;  Goaltender Frederic Henry had 60 saves against the Hartford Wolfpack in 2000 to set a club record.  Finally, Jean-Francois Damphousse and rookie goalie Pacal Gasse split duties in a 5-0 River Rat win over the Louisville Panthers at the Pepsi Arena in 2001.
