Larry Mulvaney was an outstanding coach and a real class act. He coached football, wrestling and track at Mont Pleasant for more than 35 years. Mulvaney’s best records were achieved in wrestling. He had 209 wins, 58 losses and 6 ties, and teams won two state championships. Mulvaney’s football record was 101-63-7, and he had three undefeated teams. His 1967 squad, led by All-American linebacker Gale Knull and talented end Al Aldi, was the number one team in New York state. He developed several All-Americans. Paul DellaVilla, Jack Edwards and Gary Trout were among them. Mulvaney was inducted into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Schenectady High School football field was named in his honor.
