The Amsterdam Rugmakers were a very good baseball team in the early 1960s, and they consistently competed against quality teams. Schenectady southpaw Tommy Fresoni of Wade Lupi Construction (a member of the competitive Schenectady Twiight League) threw a one-hitter to beat the Rugmakers 6-2 in 1963. The 6’4″ former Mont Pleasant star did it at Amsterdam’s Mohawk Mills Park. The only hit off of Fresoni was a first inning double by Gene Agresta. Benny Winslow, who had been a two-sport star at Linton (1961), had a 360-foot triple for the winners.
