His real name was Owen Baggerly. But to us, he was known as blossom. He was the day custodian at Oneida Junior High School in Schenectady, N.Y., when we were students there in 1959. Blossom was an avid basketball fan, and he was the biggest and most loyal supporter of our team. When I moved on and played for Linton, blossom seemed to be at all of our games. I would sit next to him in the bleachers during the junior varsity game, and he would look over at me and say, “Why are you so nervous? your game ain’t even started yet!” I’ll never forget blossom.
