Where Did “Hot Corner” Come From in Baseball

In baseball, the term ”Hot Corner” is often used to refer to the fielding of plays at third base.  Here is where the term came from.

After Cincinnati Reds third baseman Hick Carpenter caught seven line drives, a writer in 1889 said, “The Brooklyns had Old Hick on the hot corner all afternoon, and it’s a miracle he wasn’t murdered.”
